In persons with more extensive baldness, scalp reduction
technique can be employed. By this method it is possible
to reduce the bald area by removing a strip of skin about
3 cm wide and bringing the hair bearing scalp closer.
This procedure can be repeated after 6 months. By this
method, bald area 3 inches wide in the vertex can be narrowed
considerably. This is an outpatient procedure done under
local anaesthesia and does not require hospitalisation.
