Face-lift
is done to remove the excess of loose, sagging skin
from the cheeks and the neck. The incisions are made
around, above and behind the ears. Skin is lifted
from the cheeks and neck. The fascia over the muscle
is tightened. Excess of the skin is removed and sutured.
This surgery is done
under local anaesthesia with some sedation to relax
the patient and requires one day stay in the hospital.
FACELIFT
With the aging process, the skin becomes less elastic
enabling the gravity to imprint changes on the face
and the neck. A facelift reverses the effects of gravity
on the lower face, whereas a forehead lift rejuvenates
the upper one third of the face.
Incisions are made in the hairline of the temple,
around the ear, and into the hair behind the ear.
The skin and underlying tissues of the neck and cheek
are then lifted and tightened, and excess skin is
removed. The platysmal muscle bands are also resutured
thus re-establishing a more youthful appearance. Dr.
K. Ramachandran often performs facelifts under local
anesthesia with conscious sedation with the patient
having no recollection of the procedure. Most healing
following a facelift occurs during the first two weeks,
although some swelling and discoloration and tightness
may last a few more weeks. Cover-up make-up can be
applied in one week to camouflage residual bruising
and discoloration. Most patients take at least ten
days from work.
